Who, What, When and Why

What?.....

The Torquay Community Larder is a service that aims to provide long-term welfare support solutions to some of the most vulnerable individuals and families experiencing food poverty in Torquay.  As well as providing an emergency food provision it also wants to develop more sustainable offers of welfare support, such as money management courses and employability skills training.  It is hoped that these more sustainable welfare support solutions will begin to have some impact on the root causes of food poverty, rather than inadvertently creating a culture of 'dependency' solely around food.

Who?.....

The Torquay Community Larder runs seamlessly with a very dedicated and passionate volunteer team.  The volunteer team is made up of approximately 60 individuals both from the local community and local churches in Torquay.  Each volunteer has undergone specific training and are all passionate about serving the individuals and families that for many reasons find their way to the Community Larder seeking assistance.

When?.....

The Torquay Community Larder is located at Torquay Salvation Army, 29 Market Street, Torquay TQ1 3AF.  The current opening hours are Monday and Friday, 10:30am-1pm.

Why?.....

The Torquay Community Larder exists because poverty exists in our community.  Our aim is to provide support solutions that encourage and enable those that use our service to not only engage with us but to also engage with other support agencies in the community.  Our hope is that we are able to build relationships with our guests and as we journey with them, we will start to get to the root cause of their poverty and eventually see them become self-sufficient and able to support themselves once again.
